South hamming

The flat spell is finally over although it took a trip to the soth coast to break it, good old versitile Devon always comes into its own over the winter months. It was proper wintery this morning aswell, the temperature was reading -4 whislt defrosting the car. The icy condtions made driving interesting as Mr.Ryan and the Ringmore bus shelter found out.

Victory lap

Had a nice little victory lap surf this morning, even bust out the camera for a bit as the light was so good first thing, although it had diminished by the end of the session as you can see from the second shot. My theory that alot of this photography buisness is down to the kit in your hand was reinforced today as well. The first shot is taken on my 400d with a Canon 52mm f1.8 prime lens and to be fair i couldn't be happier with the clarity of the shot. Where as the second is still on the 400d but with my bottom of the range sigma 75-300mm and you can see for yourself the lower quality of the shot, someone buy me some new kit!!!

Anyhow, Jord was on top form this morning fresh off his high from scoring the highest heat total of the Inter clubs and bagging himself a new wettie from Tiki. Before paddling out I said to just go for it while I was shooting as it didn't matter if he fell for the purpose of getting a shot, so he went for it and only actually fell once or twice the whole session, me thinks someone has been holding back his surfing a bit.

Westward Surf Club take out the open division at the National Inter clubs!!!
No one seems to be able to remember the last time Westward Ho! had a team entered into the inter clubs but we made a comeback this year only to take out the open division. It was a massive team effort from the boys including Jordan Reed (captain), Stuart Wheatley, Alex Downie, Mike Plackett, Rob M Greenslade and myself. The Saunton Hotdoggers even looked like they would place in the top three after a solid performance on the saturday, but with a dieing swell and a shortboard judging criteria Croyde A managed to fight back to take 3rd place with Woolacombe A coming in second. Croyde took out the Team title as they were the only club to enter a women's team.
Got to say a massive thanks to Croyde and contest director Matt Knight for hosting the event, as it was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved. Also thanks to Huey for supplying the solid swell even if it did give us all a good kicking on Saturday! Check out www.robtibbles.com for more photo's.
